Write for Us

Thank you for your interest in contributing to The Deltagram. We welcome thoughtful, original, and well-researched writing that engages with the political, cultural, social, and intellectual life of Bangladesh — and the wider world it is irrevocably linked to.

We are a space for critical inquiry, grounded in equality, social justice, and democratic values.

Whether you’re responding to events on the ground or thinking across borders and ideologies, your voice has a place here.

Before proceeding, we encourage you to read our Editorial Policy and go through the About Us section to better understand our values and editorial stance.

What we Do Not accept

Please do not pitch for content that includes or promotes:

  • Fascist, Nazi-sympathetic, or genocidal ideologies — including, but not limited to, genocide denial, or apologism for authoritarianism.
  • Hate speech, incitement to violence, or discriminatory content targeting individuals or communities based on: race or ethnicity; gender; religion; disability; or class
  • Unsubstantiated claims, conspiracy theories, or hearsay presented as fact without credible sources.
  • Self-promotional or branded content presented as editorial work.
  • Previously published work, unless clearly disclosed and approved in advance.
  • Skeleton drafts, filler content, or AI-generated text lacking structure, depth, or authorial voice.

What we Look for

We publish work that is:

  • Insightful, evidence-based, and intellectually rigorous
  • Guided by clarity, compassion, and constructive dissent
  • Ethical in its sourcing, transparent in its method, and accountable to its readers
  • Committed to equality, pluralism, human dignity, and the dignity of labour
  • Attentive to power — and those disempowered by structures of exclusion and inequality

We value work that challenges received wisdom, centres marginalised voices, and bridges the local with the global — situating Bangladesh within broader struggles for justice, democracy, and equality.

We maintain complete editorial independence. Decisions on publication are made solely by our editorial team, free from the influence of corporate, state, or partisan interests.

What we Publish

We accept submissions in the following categories:

  • Essays / Long-form commentary (approx. 1,200–2,000 words)
  • Opinion / Analysis (approx. 700–1,000 words)
  • Dispatches / On-the-ground reporting (800–1,800 words)
  • Cultural criticism / Reviews (books, film, music, visual art)
  • Features / Profiles (in-depth portraits of people, institutions, or trends)
  • Interviews (subject to editorial adaptation and verification)

Before you Submit

We strongly encourage prospective contributors to pitch their idea first.

Your pitch should include:

  • Your full name and phone number
  • A working title
  • A summary (100–150 words) of the argument or story
  • Why your idea matters — for Bangladesh and/or a global audience
  • Your relevant background, experience, or potential sources
  • A proposed word count

Please send your pitch to thedeltagram.pitch@protonmail.com.

We typically respond within 10 days. If you do not get a reply from us within the said time frame, please feel free to submit it to any other newspaper.

Please read this once your pitch is accepted:

Submission Guidelines

If your pitch is accepted, one of our editors will ask for your full draft. And here’s how to format your draft:

  • Submit in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), Pages, or Google Docs
  • Use a 14-point serif font (e.g. Times New Roman) and 1.0 line spacing
  • Include a clear title, with a subtitle or deck if needed
  • Add your byline and a brief bio (2–3 sentences, including affiliation or expertise)
  • Use subheadings to break up the text; keep paragraphs short (3–4 sentences)
  • Hyperlink all references to sources, studies, and datasets for transparency
  • If including interviews, please be ready to provide transcripts or recordings upon acceptance
  • Images or media should be high-resolution, captioned, and permission-cleared

Style and Tone: what we look for

We seek writing that is:

  • Clear, elegant, and intellectually honest
  • Accessible without simplification — avoid unnecessary jargon
  • Critical but fair-minded, allowing space for reader reflection
  • Conversational yet precise — vivid where needed, but always disciplined
  • Attuned to context — our readers are in Dhaka, across Bangladesh, and around the world

We appreciate analysis rooted in empathy, critique anchored in fact, and storytelling that amplifies those too often unheard.

Ethical and Legal Standards

We expect submissions to adhere to the highest ethical standards. This means:

  • Original work only. Please disclose if a piece has appeared elsewhere in any form.
  • No AI-generated content.
  • All facts, data, and claims must be traceable to credible sources.
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest, funding sources, or affiliations.
  • If anonymity is necessary, explain why — and be prepared to verify information confidentially.
  • Expect to revise. Our editors will work with you to ensure clarity, accuracy, and fairness.

Upon acceptance, you grant The Deltagram first publication rights. Copyright remains with the author unless otherwise agreed. We reserve the right to edit for length, clarity, and style before publication.

The Editorial Process

  • Initial review: We evaluate alignment with our editorial direction and standards.
  • Deeper review: Some pieces may be sent to internal or external reviewers for feedback.
  • Editorial suggestions: You’ll receive notes for revision or clarification.
  • Finalisation: Once ready, your piece goes through layout, image placement, and scheduling.
  • Publication and promotion: We’ll publish and promote your work across our platforms.

We aim for a timely process but ask for patience, especially for long-form and investigative work.

After Publication

  • We archive published work and may feature it on our newsletter or social platforms.
  • Minor factual updates or corrections may be made post-publication, with a note if necessary
  • Major changes will only be made in consultation with the author
  • We encourage authors to engage with reader comments or write follow-ups when appropriate
  • Please note: We are currently unable to offer payment for unsolicited submissions.
